The Grand Council Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America Foundation has been very fortunate to be a special part of the lives of these children and their families. Our project funding has helped to improve their quality of life. Here are two of our success stories:
"Hand Camp"

What is Hand Camp?
- A weekend retreat for children ages 6-12 with hand or upper limb differences and their families
- A time for kids and their families to meet others facing the same challenges and participate in fun activities.
What happens at Camp?
- Horseback riding
- Archery
- Climbing wall
- Fishing
- Team building games
- Learning from older patients who are "Junior Counselors"
- Parent groups for support, learning, and sharing
- Campers and their families stay 3 days and 2 nights
- Have fun and make new friends!
"Camp Independence"
Babler State Park St. Louis, MO
What is Camp Independence?
- For children with cerebral palsy or spina bifida between the ages 8-12
- For kids who want to be more independent in self-care skills, socialization and mobility
What happens at Camp?
- Swimming
- Crafts
- Exercise
- Games
- Campfires
- Educational groups
- Campers have fun, explore, learn and make new friends!
- Campers stay 3 days and 2 nights in accessible cabins with Shriners Hospital staff members and volunteers.
